Most of us like tea and always enjoy a cup of good tea. Let’s find answers to the following question asked by one of our website visitors..

How many calories in a cup of tea?
This is a tricky question to answer. I had to ask several people I know and read some online documents to verify certain facts. Final answer is below.

If you consider only tea, that is without sugar or milk, a cup of tea will have will have zero (0) calories. Adding milk, sugar, cream or any other sweetener will add calories to your cup of tea. The amount of calories added will depend on the type of milk/sugar added and the quantity.

Example : Granulated white sugar will add slightly more calories compared to adding same amount brown sugar (Read about: Calories in sugar).

Take following facts into consideration..

One teaspoon of sugar contains about 18 calories

A single cup of skim milk contains about 10 calories.

Now do the math,
If you use 2 x teaspoons of sugar and 1 cup of skim milk, your cup of tea will contain 28 calories.

Iced tea made with tea bags, ice cubes and water, does not contain any calories. But the commercially mixed ones you buy may have calories due to added sweeteners.

For people who want to fight obesity and moderate the intake of sugar, green tea would be the ideal drink. Green tea has many other health benefits as well. ( Read about : Benefits of green tea)

More Information on Bagels
As we all know a bagel is a ring-shaped bread product. The Russian version of the bagel is called ‘bubliks’ and it is much larger in size compared to what we get in USA and Europe.

Question: What is Nutrient Density?

Answer: “Nutrient density” has several meanings and are explained below.

Nutrient Density explained as a simple formula :

ND = Nutrient Content / Total Energy Content

Nutrient density is the ratio of grams value of the nutrient content(vitamins and minerals etc.) to the kilo calorie value of its total energy content. In other words “a measure of the nutrients obtained per calorie..”

Lets take an example..

1. A fresh apple containing 60 calories, few grams of fiber and various vitamins and minerals.
2. A small glass of apple juice with the same amount of calories (60) but no fiber and less vitamins and minerals.

In the above case, option #1 is the more nutrient-dense choice since it gives you more nutrients per calorie of energy you intake. Knowing about the nutrient density will help you choose more healthy food choices and it will help you improve your physical health and physical activities in your activities.

Another definition for nutrient density would be the ratio of food energy from carbohydrate/protein/fat to the total energy.

It can be also defined as the ratio of the nutrient composition to the nutrient requirements of the human body.

Whichever way you want it to describe, any nutrient-dense food will be a good choice to have since it will provide you more nutrition always compared to the same quantity of non-nutrient-dense food and you will intake less calories always by eating nutrient-dense food.

When going on a diet, there are many alternative foods that you can start incorporating to lose weight. One great source of fiber and potassium can be found in apples. Fiber helps to clean out the digestive system and give you a feeling of being full compared to other foods that rely on more calories to do the same thing.

Apples are a great way for people on a diet to lose weight.

But just how many calories are in an apple?
Find the answers below.

A medium apple contains about 110 calories so you can expect about 65 calories per cup of quartered or chopped apples. If the peeling is removed, this will drop down further.

Every ounce of apple contains about 16 calories.

One cup of applesauce contains about 100 calories.

Note : Like many other fruits, Apples are good for your health. Apple fibers will help keep you regulated and help fight disease. Also, fiber tends to fill you up before you eat too many calories. If you have a weight problem, stop eating fried chicken or ham…, not fruits.
