Protein shake recipes are fast becoming popular for their simplicity and benefits in exercise. Protein is one of the most important nutrients your body needs to improve its muscles, bones and skin. Keep in mind though, that protein shakes should not replace your diet, but only supplement it! Also remember that the recommended amount of daily protein intake for an average adult is only 0.75g per kilogram of body weight which averages to about 45 to 56g of protein a day!

The two most common types of protein seen in protein shake recipes are whey proteins and casein proteins. Others include soy protein which is popular amongst females and egg-white protein which is ideal for the lactose intolerant consumer.

Whey proteins are the by-product of cheese production and is absorbed by the body very quickly. It contains high levels of all the essential amino acids and branched-chain amino acids and is effective in boosting the immunization systems of the body. Two of the more exotic whey protein shake recipes are displayed below:

Blue Mango Heaven

One third to a half of a cup of blueberries

Quarter to half a cup of frozen mango

1 to 2 scoops of “ProEnergy Vanilla Whey Protein Powder”

One to One and half cups of pure water / skim milk

If you want it extra thick, add ice

Optionally, you could also add in a Quarter of “OmegaEnergy Mix”

Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie

Quarter to half a cup of raspberries

1 to 1 and a half cups of skim milk

1 to 2 scoops of “ProEnergy Chocolate Whey Protein Powder”

If you want it extra thick, add ice.

Casein proteins are predominantly found in cow’s milk and cheese and are popular for their sustained, slow release of amino acids into the blood stream which can last for several hours. This is extremely useful for the body as it helps improve the body’s nitrogen retention and utilization. Two of the more exotic casein protein shake recipes are displayed below:

Mocha Iced Cafe Madness

Eight ounces of skim milk

Four tablespoons of heavy whipped cream

Two scoops of “Chocolate Misclellar casein protein powder”

Twelve ounces of Coffee

Six to Eight ice cubes

Chocolate Raspberry Shake

Ten to Twelve raspberries

Two scoops of “Chocolate Miscellar Casein protein powder”

Ten to Twelve ounces of skim milk

Five to Six ice cubes

The edible yellow color flesh emits a distinctive strong odor, even with the husk intact. While some consider this smell as fragrant; most people find it overpowering and offensive.

Nutritional and medicinal properties
The following few paragraphs are taken from the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian

Durian fruit contains a high amount of sugar, vitamin C, potassium, and the serotonergic amino acid tryptophan, and is a good source of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. It is recommended as a good source of raw fats by several raw food advocates, while others classify it as a high-glycemic or high-fat food, recommending to minimise its consumption.

In Malaysia, a decoction of the leaves and roots used to be prescribed as an antipyretic. The leaf juice is applied on the head of a fever patient. The most complete description of the medicinal use of the durian as remedies for fevers is a Malay prescription, collected by Burkill and Haniff in 1930. It instructs the reader to boil the roots of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis with the roots of Durio zibethinus, Nephelium longan, Nephelium mutabile and Artocarpus integrifolia, and drink the decoction or use it as a poultice.

In the 1920s, Durian Fruit Products, Inc., of New York City launched a product called “Dur-India” as a health food supplement, selling at US$9 for a dozen bottles, each containing 63 tablets. The tablets allegedly contained durian and a species of the genus Allium from India and vitamin E. The company promoted the supplement saying that it provides “more concentrated healthful energy in food form than any other product the world affords”.

Betalain pigments present in the cell vacuoles of beetroot are responsible for this distinctive red color.

Beetroots are said to be rich in betaine, a nutriant good for cardiovascular health. Betaine help reduce the homocysteine concentration which is harmful to blood vessels which can cause heart strokes and diseases.

Beetroots are also rich in ‘boron’, an element helping in the production process of certain human sex hormones.

Several studies have shown the ability of beetroot juice to increase your stamina, enabling people to exercise for longer periods of time. The nitrates contain in beetroot is the reason for this. The amount of oxygen burned by the body when exercising is reduced by nitrate turning into nitric-oxide, making exercise less tiring.

The fat burning exercises above will help you burn fat and calories fast. They are your short term answer to burning fat. They are more efficient at this than, for example, long runs.

But keeping excess fat off, is a life long process. So you have to consider your long term goals, which may change with age and your life circumstances.

For the long term, your number 1 priority has to be with exercise you enjoy. It goes without saying that you also continue your healthy diet.

You may already have found that whole body circuits and intervals are perfect for your lifestyle, and you enjoy doing them. They’re quick to do and can be varied loads. Both huge positives for busy lives.

But they’re not long term solutions for everyone. You may enjoy other activities. And let’s face facts, you may not burn all your fat in 4 weeks.

The most stubborn fat (usually around the thighs and bum for women, chest for men, stomach and love handles for both) will take longer to shift.

Don’t be tempted to focus solely on any one area. Your body burns fat as a whole. So the best long term fat burning exercises, are the regular (i.e. 3-5 times a week) activities you enjoy (e.g. pilates, swimming, running, cycling, walking, sports and so on).

My point is that your fitness is more important than fat loss. You may think not, body image is the be all and end all for many people.

But in terms of health, new studies are suggesting that fitness is key, ahead of fat levels (Journal of the American Medical Association).

With being fit, you will burn fat too. After all, that is a part of fitness. Both go hand-in-hand, but enjoying your journey to overall fitness should be your focus.

Final Word
Some exercise is better than none at all. This gets more true as you get older. Vary your exercise every month. Mix it up a little.

Maybe even do 4 weeks of intense fat burning exercises every few months, in-between your normal activities.

In time, even the most stubborn fat will go.

“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another.”
(Walter Elliott, The Spiritual Life)

Be imaginative, take the pressure off and really enjoy your fat burning exercises.

If you’re going to eat healthily, you don’t just need to balance your diet: it’s no good eating just the right proportion of carbohydrate, protein and fat if you’re still eating far too much food! That’s why food labels also tell you how many calories the food contains, so you can limit your calorie intake and make sure not to consume too many in a day.

The amount of calories you will need varies from person to person, depending on your gender, age, build, what kind of work you do, and all sorts of other factors. As a rough guide, though, women need about 2,000 calories per day to function properly, while men need around 2,500. A good way to organise this is to have 500 calories for breakfast, 500 for lunch and 1,000 for dinner – as men and women tend to eat together in the evenings, a man may find it easiest to eat a large lunch in order to get his extra 500 calories. In practice, you will probably want to keep each meal a hundred calories or so under these amounts, to allow for a modest amount of snacking.

The world is full of fad diets, but this is one that works: combined with exercise, there is simply no way for calorie-counting to fail, provided you have the willpower to stick with it. The reason that there are so many ways out there to ‘lose weight fast’ is that many people, unfortunately, find it hard to make themselves count calories. One tip: if you find it annoying to add up how many calories you’re putting in food, you might find it easier to work out and write down how many calories there are in the meals you make regularly. This will allow you to plan better and have some days where you don’t need to worry about what you’re putting in the food.

A person working at a high pace or in a very hot environment loses water and salt through sweat. This loss should be made up by having the worker consume more water and salt. Fluid intake should equal fluid loss; in other words, what goes out must come in. On average, about one litre of water each hour may be required to replace the fluid loss. Plenty of cool (10-15°C) drinking water should be available on the job site and workers should be encouraged to drink water every 15 to 20 minutes even if they do not feel thirsty.

Many people opt for sport drinks, fruit juice, etc. Drinks specially designed to replace body fluids and electrolytes may be taken but for most people, they should be used in moderation. They may be of benefit for workers who have very physically active occupations but keep in mind they may add unnecessary sugar or salt to your diet. Fruit juice or sport and electrolyte drinks, diluted to half the strength with water, is an option. Drinks with alcohol or caffeine should never be taken, as they dehydrate the body. For most people, water is the most efficient fluid for re-hydration.

A worker used to, or acclimatized to, lifting heavy loads or working in the heat sweats more “efficiently” – they sweat sooner and sweat more, but they lose less salt in their sweat than labourers who are not used to such work. For this reason, the salt in a normal diet is usually enough to maintain the electrolyte balance and keep the body working well. For un-acclimatized workers who are not used to manual labour or working in the heat, and who will therefore lose more salt in their sweat, they may wish to use extra salt in food. Salt tablets are not a good idea, however, because the salt does not enter the body system as fast as water or other fluids. Too much salt can cause higher body temperatures and can also make someone feel thirsty or sick. Workers on salt-restricted diets should talk to their doctor about how much salt they need for their job.

While it’s most important for an employer to provide a safe and healthy workplace, it’s also important to encourage healthy lifestyles among their employees. Healthy eating programs can be a great first step. They can bring lots of people together to learn how to improve their health both at work and at home. As always, these programs should be part of a complete workplace health program and should not take resources or attention away from workplace hazards that may be present.

Before you start:

No matter how much you plan or make people aware, healthy eating programs should be voluntary – not everyone will join or be interested. Survey employees to help you to decide what types and levels of programs to offer.

When planning a health program, be sure you know the interests of your audience. In this case:

    * Know why people are interested in a healthy eating program. Are participants looking for general nutrition information, or more specific programs such as heart health?
* Be sure to consider what types of programs have been offered in the past. Which programs worked? Which did not?
* Know exactly who your target audience is.
* Plan when will the program be offered (seasonal, or all year)
* State who people can go to if they have individual questions or want more help

The benefits of weight training overall are comparable to most other types of strength training: increased muscle, tendon and ligament strength, bone density, flexibility, tone, metabolic rate, and postural support. There are benefits and limitations to weight training as compared to other types of strength training.

Weight training versus resistance training
Resistance training involves the application of elastic or hydraulic resistance to muscle contraction rather than gravity. Weight training provides the majority of the resistance at the beginning, initiation joint angle of the movement, when the muscle must overcome the inertia of the weight’s mass. After this point the overall resistance alters depending on the angle of the joint. In comparison, hydraulic resistance provides a fixed amount of resistance throughout the range of motion, depending on the speed of the movement. Elastic resistance provides the greatest resistance at the end of the motion, when the elastic element is stretched to the greatest extent.

Weight training versus isometric training
Isometric exercise provides a fixed amount of resistance based on the force output of the muscle. This strengthens the muscle at the specific joint angle at which the isometric exercise occurs, with some lesser gains in strength also occurring at proximal joint angles. In comparison, weight training strengthens the muscle throughout the range of motion the joint is trained in, causing an increase in physical strength from the initiating through to terminating joint angle.

Weight training and bodybuilding
Although weight training is similar to bodybuilding, they have different objectives. Bodybuilders use weight training to develop their muscles for size, shape, and symmetry regardless of any increase in strength for competition in bodybuilding contests; they train to maximize their muscular size and develop extremely low levels of body fat. In contrast, many weight trainers train to improve their strength and anaerobic endurance while not giving special attention to reducing body fat far below normal.

The bodybuilding community has been the source of many of weight training’s principles, techniques, vocabulary, and customs. Weight training does allow tremendous flexibility in exercises and weights which can allow bodybuilders to target specific muscles and muscle groups, as well as attain specific goals.

Of course, not all bodybuilding is undertaken to compete in bodybuilding contests, and, in fact the vast majority of bodybuilders never compete, but bodybuild for their own personal reasons, irrespective of any judging panel except themselves.

How to Lose Facial Fat
Most of us want to lose either belly fat or just want lose fat overall, but i have got a lot of requests recently with people wanting how to lose fat in the face. This post will deal with what the realities are and i will even give you a few tips on what you can do.

I want to state from the beginning that spot reduction of fat (which is to lose fat in a specific area) through exercise or dieting or any means, is not possible. If we could target specific areas, fat loss would not be such a problem. Targeting thighs, a spare tire, flabby arms, or in this case a somewhat chubby face is not something we can do, so lets focus on what we can do.

Don’t be discouraged, the situations isn’t hopeless. How can we lose fat in the face? Here are some tips and tricks:

1. Diet, Nutrition and Exercise – lose overall body fat.

When we lose weight or fat we cant control where it goes from, so we tend to lose fat from over our whole bodies. Where you lose the fat from is unique to you, while i might lose fat in the face at the start, you might lose the fat from thighs. All i know is that usually, the stomach or abdomen is the last place.

If you are overweight, then a healthy diet along with regular workouts will burn fat from all areas, including your face. For some people the difference will be dramatic, for others less so, but all should enjoy some improvement in facial appearance. Remember: Spot fat loss through exercise isn’t possible, but fat loss is. So focus on losing overall fat and eventually it will go from the areas you want.

2. Hydrate.

Drinking eight big glasses of water a day has been proven to aid in weight loss. Sometimes when we think we’re hungry, our body is actually just thirsty. And when we don’t drink enough water, the end result is that our body thinks we wont be getting any water soon so any extra liquid is retained. Drinking lots of water can take the edge off our “hunger” as well and keep us from overeating, thus helping us to lose fat.

This water retention, If you’re a woman–especially if you’ve just come through a pregnancy or are experiencing menopause–could be part of the problem. So drink up! There’s nothing like water.

3. Firming up your face.

I have heard people swear by facial exercise; others consider it silly and question it effectiveness. I personally don’t think it works. It won’t hurt to try it for a few weeks or a couple of months to see if it works for you. Remember, your aim here is to tighten and firm your skin.

Here are some example facial exercises to lose fat in the face:

Here’s one for firming up a double chin: Using the back (top) of your hand, slap/tap the bottom of your chin rapidly yet firmly a few times. Do this often, whenever you think of it. Whenever you have time.

Another one for the cheeks: Sit. Relax. Smile, keeping your lips closed. Now suck in your cheeks and hold them in while you count 8 seconds. Relax and repeat at least ten times. This is a good one to do while driving, as it requires no hands to perform. Another exercise for your cheeks is simply to smile as wide as you can (lips closed) as you imagine you are trying to touch your ears with the corners of your mouth.

4. Age.

This might sounds strange but this is one of the easiest ways to lose fat from the face — it only requires time!

If you’re in your teens, twenties or even thirties, your roundish face might be caused by baby fat that has yet to melt. Give it some time, and meanwhile be sure to work on reducing your overall body fat if need be. As people age they tend to lose a lot of their facial fat.

5. Misdirection.

A trick is to use misdirection to deceive. You can “lose” the fat in your face the same way — by misdirecting the viewer’s attention and by disguising the roundness.

Sorry, guys — these are women-only subterfuges … unless of course you are into makeup or have long hair.

If you have a double chin you want to camouflage, I’m told that adding some blush along your jaw line will do the trick. Start from just below your ears and brush it all the way to your chin, making sure to blend. If you also put a spot of white powder on the tip of the chin for a highlight, the overall effect will be dramatically slimming.

Similarly, to make your face look thinner, just brush bronzer over your cheekbones and temples, as well as under your chin. Boost the effect with white-powder highlights on chin tip, cheeks, forehead and the bridge or your nose.

But the most effective is to change your hairstyle to change the parts of your face that are emphasized. It works like a charm.

6. Liposuction & Cosmetic Surgery

Liposuction is an intrusive procedure. It can also be combined with ultrasound. As you probably know, liposuction involves making one or more small incisions in the skin, inserting tiny “vacuum hoses” and suctioning out the fat. It works particularly well on double chins and jowls, and can be used to “deflate” fat cheeks, too.

The other method is cosmetic surgery, the celebrities do it. Average people do it. For some, results are stupendous. For a few, they’re a nightmare. Botched jobs do happen. And in any case, face lifts and similar cosmetic procedures are expensive. So take care and do your research before you consider doing any of these procedures.

I hope you find these tips and ideas useful. At the end of the day, nothing beats losing fat overall in terms of safety and effectiveness. It just takes some hard work. But at the end of the day not only will you lose facial fat, you will also have a nice toned body to go with it.
