Calories in Strawberries
Calories in strawberries, are not as high as one might mistakenly assume. Since strawberry has a sweet taste, and is juicy, you might easily and wrongly think of them as a fruit with a big calorie count. The good news is, in reality, strawberries are a low-calorie fruit.
So what is the actual strawberry calorie count after all? Well, to your surprise, the actual strawberry calorie count is 2 (or more precisely, 1.5-2). For large strawberries, this calorie count can jump up to a 10 calories. As you may notice, this is a pretty humble calorie score for a very delicious fruit.
Nonetheless, a fruit having a suitable calorie count doesn’t imply that you start eating it wildly. Calories add up as you eat more and more. As far as strawberries are concerned, a reasonable way to have them is in a small plate or bowl. This will be what could be called a healthy and safe strawberry intake. Too many will be harmful in the same way as a high calorie edible is going to be.
Let us go through a chart of statistics and figures of calories in strawberries:
- No. of calories in 100g (3.5 oz) of strawberries = 32
- No. of calories in 144g (1 cup) of whole strawberries = 46
- No. of calories in 166g (1 cup) of sliced strawberries = 53
The distribution of ingredients in strawberries is a major reason behind the low calorie count. There is quite an appreciable amount (up to 90%) of water in strawberries. Furthermore, the low sugar percentage of strawberries also accounts for the low calorie count. Whereas other fruits have a higher sugar percentage, strawberries have less than 5%. As a comparison we can view apples, which have up to 10% sugar. Sugar accounts for 60% of the calories in strawberries, but the sugar percentage is itself so low, that the calorie count is low.
Without adding any extra sugar, cream or sweetener, up to a bowl of strawberries is a very good, healthy and safe treat for you.
